Our Curriculum

English

In English, students learn the skills required to improve their effectiveness as communicators in written and spoken language.

The three domains in English are:

  1. READING & VIEWING

  2. WRITING

  3. SPEAKING & LISTENING

Our teaching and learning program in English is designed to develop and assess students’ skills and progress in these three areas. Students are given the opportunity to learn at their level with support, mainstream and advanced classes being run. There are also opportunities for students to move flexibly between classes at times as teachers utilise our open plan learning spaces.

Science

Irymple Secondary College offers a broad spectrum of learning form the four main areas of Science.

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Physics

  • Earth & Space Science

These are taught at each Year level and students are streamed into their ability groups to ensure the best teaching and learning for each student.

Lessons are a combination of explicit teaching, experiments and online interactive programs through Stile.

The core Science course is complemented with a range of Science electives across the year levels.

Mathematics

Our curriculum involves many online programs that are set up to provide students with a learning program suitable to each individual. Our main program is essential assessment and we also use Mathspace for additional activities.  This combined with easily accessed online tutorial videos and our teachers giving constant feedback and support has allowed our students to continually achieve strong growth across all areas of Mathematics.

Humanities

The study of Humanities introduces students to the disciplines of Geography, History, Economics and Civics. Studying these disciplines encourages students to develop the skills required to critically think about the world around them and their place in it.

Technology

Technology subjects are hands on subjects that allow students to develop confidence and competence with practical skills and knowledge.

With fully equipped metal and wood workshops and an ultra-modern kitchen, we are able to provide students with full immersion to all tools and equipment along with digital interaction.

We offer a wide variety of subjects to enable students to choose things that interest them and help to develop for future pathways.

Physical Education & Health

At ISC we encourage students to develop the physical skills and mind sets to participate regularly in a broad range of physical activities. We also, through our Health Units, develop positive awareness about relevant teenage health issues and encourage students to seek help through recognised Health Resources.

Languages

Languages is a core subject in Year 7 and an elective in Years 8, 9 & 10.

Currently offering Indonesian as our language of choice

Arts

Irymple Secondary College offers a wide variety of Visual Arts and Performing Arts disciplines within the curriculum across the four year levels. With dedicated Visual Arts and Performing Arts spaces, we are able to give students an authentic experience when studying The Arts.
