Child Safe Standards
The Department of Education is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. To ensure the safety and protection of all students, the Department of Education has developed the Child Safe Standards. These standards are designed to ensure that all students in our schools are provided with protection, safety and wellbeing at all times. The Child Safe Standards include policies and procedures that create a culture of child safety, promote the reporting of concerns, and ensure that all staff are aware of their duty of care. The standards also provide the framework for responding to, managing and reporting any concerns. You may find the policies on our website, in K/Policy Library, Yammer or speak with Leadership at any stage.
Our CSS policies can be found here.

Communication
At our school, we value effective communication and have implemented Yammer (Viva Engage) as our primary communication tool. It is important for everyone to use Yammer, as this is where all announcements, news, and updates will be posted. When using Yammer, be sure to post in the appropriate group and read all posts. You can also like posts to show your understanding and appreciation. We look forward to hearing from all of you on Yammer
Attendance & Roll Marking
At our school, student attendance is taken seriously and is monitored closely. Roll marking is an accurate and effective way to track attendance and also forms part of our Duty of Care. At the beginning of each session, all rolls are marked within the first 10 minutes by the classroom teacher. When a student is absent, an SMS is sent to their parent/guardian to notify them. Therefore the accuracy of rolls is paramount. We understand the importance of ensuring our students are attending school and that their attendance is monitored.
Late Arrivals & Early Departures (Students)
We understand that students may need to arrive late to school or leave early. Whilst we encourage families to make arrangements outside of school hours we know this may not always be possible. In order to ensure the safety of our students, we require parents to call, email or use Compass to provide permission for their child to arrive late and/or leave early. We will then record the attendance data accordingly. Students are not permitted to leave school without permission.
Students out of class
At our school, we take student safety and learning seriously. Therefore, students are not permitted to be out of class unless there is a valid reason. If a student needs to step out, they must do so one at a time, and bathroom breaks should be kept to a minimum. If a student is not present, we ask that they post on the AWOL Yammer group and provide any relevant details or concerns.
Casual Relief Teachers (CRT)
Irymple Secondary College is home to a talented and dedicated team of Classroom Teachers & CRT's who take pride in providing important, detailed instruction across a wide range of lessons. Our staff make sure all students have the same classroom expectations and are able to seek support from Head of Curriculum Areas (HOCA) or Leadership team.

Locker Access
Students in our school have access to their own locker, located in the locker shed at the rear of the school. The locker shed is open between the hours of 8am and 4pm on school days. We ask that students keep their lockers clean and tidy at all times. We recommend that students access their lockers before school, during recess, lunchtime and after school. Each student should have their own padlock to secure their locker as the school is not responsible for valuables.
Mobile Phones
Students are not permitted to use their mobile phone during class.
Our Mobile Technology Policy can be found here
Cleaning
Cleaning is an important part of maintaining a safe and healthy educational environment. To ensure the safety and comfort of all staff and students, it is important to keep the school clean and tidy. This includes general tidiness, such as making sure chairs are up on tables, and adhering to all OH&S requirements. Any incidents such as spillages should be reported in the cleaners book or via Yammer for immediate attention. By keeping our educational environment clean and tidy, we are ensuring that everyone is kept safe and comfortable.
